    This refresher course aims to support delegates in maintaining safe and effective slinging and signalling practices when working with lifting operations. It is designed to reinforce existing knowledge, promote safe working practices, and help delegates continue to operate confidently and responsibly on site. 

    By the end of the course, the training aims to support delegates in:
    • Understanding their statutory responsibilities under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
    • Recognising how sling angles affect the safe working load of lifting equipment
    • Understanding the importance of load weight and centre of gravity when using lifting tackle
    • Using recognised signalling codes to communicate clearly with the crane operator

    As this is a refresher course, delegates should have already completed the original Slinger Signaller training. The Slinger Signaller refresher course combines classroom learning, with practical exercises and group participation, giving delegates the opportunity to revisit key principles and refresh their skills in a supportive environment.

    Statutory Requirements 

    Delegates revisit their legal responsibilities and regulatory guidance, including:
    • Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 - Section 2: General duties of employers
    • Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 - Section 7 & 8: General duties of employees 
    • Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (overview)
    • Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (overview)

    Focuses on safe practices and operational planning, including:
    • BS 7121 Pt.1 (2006) - Safe use of cranes
    • BS 7121 Pt.3 (2000) - Safe use of mobile cranes

    Refresher on essential sling use and safety, including:
    • Recognising damaged parts

    Delegates must be at least 18 years old, medically fit for practical exercises, have completed the initial Slinger Signaller course, and have a reasonable level of written and spoken English. For additional support, please see Q14.

    Yes. Delegates should have completed their initial Slinger Signaller course and have some experience giving directions to crane operators during lifts.

    Q9. What should I bring on the day?
    Delegates should bring their current Slinger Signaller certificate. PPE including comfortable workwear, safety boots, hi-vis vest/jacket, hard-hat (preferably with a chin strap), protective gloves, eye protection, safety footwear, long-sleeve top and trousers (shorts are not permitted). Weather-appropriate clothing may be required for outdoor sessions.
